The Nexstar Evolution mount is a single arm fork mount by Celestron. It is an Alt-Azimuth style mount, which means that it moves in an easy to understand left / right / up / down manner. It is fitted with an internal rechargeable battery which allows it to track the movement of the sky when no additional power is available.

It also has Wi-Fi capability which allows it to be controlled by a phone, tablet or computer giving the user an easy means of pointing at a large collection of objects in its internal database.

As shown here, it is not a suitable mount for long exposure photography because the Alt-Azimuth platform moves in such a way that leads to rotation of the image on the camera sensor. It can be modified for photography by the addition of a wedge, which tilts the mount in a way that allows one of its axes to be aligned with the rotational axis of the Earth. In this configuration the mount only has to move in one axis at a precise rate to follow the movement of objects across the sky.

This mount is not normally available to buy as a separate item. It usually comes bundled with a Schmidt Cassegrain Telescope. More information about the bundles on offer can be found on the Celestron website.
